The serverless data execution platform where AI agents build safely on production data.
We are a small team of engineers out of New York and San Francisco. After years working in AI, we became passionate about making it simple for every developer to work with data infrastructure. We value strong technical skills, frugality, deep customer empathy and adventurous offsites.
Ciro, Jacopo and Mattia are serial entrepreneurs who went from early stage to acquisition to IPO in less than 5 years, and our founding team comes from Docker, Amazon and top academic institutions.
bauplaners have a few Ph.D.s, 40+ research papers (including Nature, ICML, KDD, VLDB, SIGMOD), thousands of citations and several popular open source contributions, with millions of downloads and >10k GitHub stars.

Bauplan is a term from evolutionary biology and means ground or structural plan. It is a concept from evolutionary biology used to identify common sets of morphological features in organism like as symmetry, layers, segmentation, nerve, limb configuration. Different phyla of animals can be grouped based on their bauplan. For instance, the vertebrates share the same Bauplan, while invertebrates have many Baupläne. We wanted a name that could convey our passion for structural optimization of complex systems. What makes a bauplan successful in history of evolution? How many ways are there to optimize the structure of an organism against his environment? If you want to know more about this kind of stuff check out this amazing book by Sean B. Carroll.

Bauplan builds a serverless data lakehouse - a "Git-for-data" platform that runs Python and SQL pipelines directly on Apache Iceberg tables, with no servers or clusters to manage. It brings Git-style branching to data, so you (and AI agents) can safely make changes on production tables: write to an isolated branch, validate, publish to main atomically, and roll back if something breaks.
Bauplan is for data engineers and teams who want to ship production data changes without running a heavy data platform - and the AI agents they deploy to build, test, and fix pipelines on real data. It's used for data transformation, ingestion, ML pipelines, and user-facing analytics.
Bauplan Inc. is based in San Francisco, California (595 Market Street, 10th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105).
Bauplan isn't an orchestrator - it's a serverless lakehouse that runs underneath one. Dagster and Airflow handle scheduling, retries, and task ordering; Bauplan handles fast pipeline execution plus Git-style data branching, atomic publishing, and rollback. You keep your orchestrator and call Bauplan from it (e.g. as Airflow tasks).
