About us
Data infrastructure was built for humans: a few people making careful changes through consoles, at human speed and human volume. Agents break every one of those assumptions. They work in parallel, never sleep, run a thousand times more compute, and fail constantly, because failing repeatedly is how they arrive at a right answer. Nothing in today's stack survives that.
Bauplan is rebuilding it from the bottom: a transactional layer that gives data branches, merges and instant rollback, and a proprietary processing engine for analytical workloads designed to handle agentic workflows an order of magnitude faster and more efficiently.
Our customers already open a data branch every four seconds. We are backed by Index Ventures, Innovation Endeavors, South Park Commons and Evantic, and by the people who built the modern data stack: Wes McKinney and Chang She, creators of Pandas and Arrow, Spencer Kimball of CockroachDB, Erik Bernhardsson of Modal, Aditya Parameswaran of Berkeley, Chris Ré of Stanford, Ihab Ilyas of Waterloo, and Severin Hacker of Duolingo. Behind our own team sit 70 papers, 100 million downloads and 10,000 GitHub stars.
The data stack gets rewritten about once a decade. This is that decade.
The role
You will be the first marketing hire at Bauplan, and you will own how the market understands what we are building.
Your mission is to turn Bauplan's architectural and technical advantage into positioning that data leaders repeat back to us, and to turn that positioning into pipeline inside the accounts we want to win.
You will work as one unit with our first technical seller. They bring back what buyers say in discovery, you turn it into the story, the materials and the programs that generate the top of the funnel of our pipeline. You own positioning, messaging and the first demand programs.
This role is hands on: you personally write, ship and run the programs. You will also have the opportunity to build the team together with the founders.
The terms of success in 4 months:
- Our positioning is defined and live on every channel we control: website, decks, posts, docs, battlecards and talks.
- Content ships on a cadence you set and hit, and every benchmark we publish holds up when readers reproduce it.
- You can show which programs generate top of the funnel conversations of good quality.
What you will do
- Own positioning and messaging. Decide how Bauplan is described: the category, the problem, the proof. Our first market is data and platform teams at mid-size enterprises, and we will move up-market from there. Rewrite the story until it lands with the data and platform leaders who buy, not only the engineers who build.
- Work two in a box with our first technical seller. Sit in discovery calls, hear what buyers actually say, and iterate the message with the person who carries it.
- Turn technical depth into content people want. We hand you a paper or an architecture spec and you come back with the post, the talk or the webinar that a data leader finds genuinely useful.
- Run the first demand programs. Build the target account list with the seller, run account-based plays against it, and own launches, the website and the channels that carry the message.
- Feed the product loop. You will hear the market before the rest of us do. Bring it back into the roadmap, packaging and pricing.
- Shape the next hire. Once the basics work, you will know what to scale and who we need to scale it.
What we look for
- Technical origin. You have a technical background or you started as an engineer. You can read our tech specs, documentation, research papers and explain them without an engineer in the room.
- Product and commercial range. You have worked in product, product marketing or a strategy role at a data or developer infrastructure company, close to revenue: in sales calls, launches, pricing and positioning decisions. Your title today may say product rather than marketing. We care about the work, not the title.
- Positioning craft. You have taken a technically complex product and found the sentence a buyer remembers.
- A public voice. You write, you give talks, you go on podcasts, and people in data and developer infrastructure know your work.
- 0 to 1 experience. You were early at an infrastructure company and built something from close to zero: a product line, an open source project that found real users, a launch, a first go-to-market motion.
- Around 5 to 7 years of experience. Senior enough to own positioning with the founders, hands on enough to write the first draft yourself.
