Announcing Bauplan's seed round

Announcing $7.5M seed round led by Innovation Endeavors

Big news: Bauplan has raised a $7.5M seed round, led by Innovation Endeavors and South Park Commons, with participation from key players in AI, data, and infrastructure such as Wes McKinney (pandas, Apache Arrow), Aditya Agarwal (ex-Dropbox CTO), Chris Ré (Stanford, TogetherAI), and Ihab Ilyas (Tamr, University of Waterloo), Jeffrey J. Rothschild, and Spencer Kimball (CockroachDB) and Firsthand VC.

We started Bauplan with a simple but radical idea—what if data infrastructure could be as intuitive as writing code? AI and machine learning have been revolutionized by pre-trained models, making it easier than ever for software engineers to build AI-powered features. But the moment you need to handle data—retrieval pipelines, feature engineering, fine-tuning datasets—you hit a wall. The tools designed for AI and data workflows were built for hyperscalers, but most companies don’t operate at that scale—yet they’re forced to deal with the same unnecessary complexity.

That’s what we’re fixing. Bauplan turns AI and data engineering into software engineering. No Spark clusters to manage, no arcane configuration files—just pure Python and SQL, executed on a serverless platform that feels local and works instantly.

Bauplan co-founders: Ciro, Jacopo and Mattia.

Why Now?

Several shifts in the AI and data landscape made this the right time to build Bauplan:

  • AI is now an engineering problem. Pre-trained models let software engineers integrate AI without ML expertise. The bottleneck is data, not models.

  • Python is eating data infrastructure. The old world of Spark and Hadoop is giving way to Python-native, developer-friendly platforms.

  • Object storage + modern hardware efficiency change everything. The increasing affordability of high-memory, high-performance compute means that many data workloads no longer need complex distributed systems. Instead of managing clusters, we can now process massive datasets efficiently on single-node architectures, making data infrastructure radically simpler and more cost-effective.

Bauplan makes these shifts real. We handle the infrastructure so engineers can focus on building, not fighting their data stack.

Who’s Using Bauplan?

Bauplan is already in production with enterprise customers, including MFE-MediaForEurope, one of the largest broadcasters in Europe. Their team went from being stuck with infrastructure limitations to unlocking entirely new use cases in weeks.

"Bauplan has rapidly taken hold across our organization. Developers who have the expertise to work on data can now focus on the actual work and never deal with infrastructure. At the same time, developers with a traditional backend or software engineering background can now build production-grade solutions with data." – Fabio Melen, Head of Data Technology, MFE-MediaForEurope

What’s Next?

With this round, we’re doubling down on our mission: making AI infrastructure seamless for developers. We’re scaling up our platform, growing our team, and working with early customers who are already pushing terabytes of data through Bauplan every week.

If you want to build AI-powered data applications without the headaches of traditional data engineering, try out Bauplan. And if you're excited about working on some of the hardest problems in systems engineering, we’re hiring.

This is just the beginning. Onward. 🚀
